For years the crop circle phenomenon has both intrigued and baffled. Most people, Whether they believe them to be clever hoaxes or something more will have both heard and formed an opinion on these peculiar though beautiful phenomena. In celebration of this mystery we're featuring a quick review of a new documentary being released on DVD this month, "What On Earth? Inside the Crop Circle Mystery." The film is produced and directed by Suzanne Taylor who has followed the crop circle phenomenon for many years. Unlike some other documentaries what this documentary does not do is latch on to one specific theory and then present it as the definitive one, what it does do is explore all the possibilities and present them in an unbiased manner. No stone is left unturned, the film accepts for instance that there are hoaxers out there and even follows some of them as they go about the process of creating circles, no one explanation is put forward as the "correct" one and by the end its left up to the viewer to decide which make the most sense. Throughout the film Taylor meets and speaks to a number of people including researchers and investigators as well as people who have had experiences with crop circles either when visiting them or when circles have appeared in their own fields. There is a lot of passion for the topic here, some have spent many years investigating the subject including Taylor herself and it shows, the interviews are fascinating to listen to and some of the stories are genuinely perplexing. The film is presented very well with a large number of crop circles being shown throughout, the music fits very well and adds to the atmosphere of mystery and intrigue. By the end the film as a whole feels a bit like a spiritual experience, opening the mind to a plethora of metaphysical concepts and leaving even the most die-hard skeptic believing that there may just be something to the crop circle mystery after all.
Hello. Recently I saw your film on the Crop Circles and I didn't have the opportunity to tell you how much I enjoyed it! First off, they're beautifully represented by the footage you have. Then for someone who hasn't visited them personally, I got such a positive feeling from them. Plus there are compelling discussions which make it worth it's weight as a documentary. This crop circle phenomenon for me is so uplifting. Thank you for this movie!
The DVD is a tremendous job and I really appreciated it. It is an objective and yet human way to put the crop formations phenomenon in perspective. Clear, compelling and really well done. I congratulate you and your team for such a good work. I will gather together some of the people most interested in the phenomenon and I will screen the DVD, translating it personally. I do believe that those people will be touched by your work, to see that the same feeling they have towards this intriguing phenomenon affects other persons in different countries covered by your documentary.
I have viewed your film many times at this point, since I like having things playing when I do my morning exercise routine, and can't think of many things better to focus on than the beautiful images and ideas in "What on Earth?" I think you have done a marvelous job with this. Just a great assembly of the wisest voices in the field, articulating so much important information. I love the special features. Polly Carson is just wonderful. Isabelle's story is quite compelling as well. The "favorites," the "montage," the tribute to John Mack.... These are marvelous additions. Feedback from people I have shared the film with has been very positive, not surprisingly. Thank you, Suzanne, for all your work.
For those of you who really want to have a rational understanding of crop circles, what I liked about your DVD is that you anticipate all the questions people will ask and you answer them brilliantly. You do one thing that really makes this a must have in the home library -- the best job I have seen, and I have seen a lot of books and DVDs on this whole issue of sacred geometry, but you're the first one who conveys it in a way that folks in the mainstream can look at and go, "Now I understand what they're talking about.
This documentary is the best presentation I have ever seen on crop circles, and, no doubt, the definitive work on this phenomenon. I was greatly impressed by not only the individuals you interviewed, but your style of interviewing. I felt that you brought a relaxed approach to the method of interviewing, and gave your subjects a comfort zone that allowed them to more freely express their thoughts. I learned more from your documentary about crop circles in 80 minutes than I have learned in the decade I have been researching them.
With the breathtaking crop circles as her backdrops, storyteller Suzanne Taylor engages with an array of people who devote much of their lives to exploring this unexplained phenomenon first hand. This fascinating community of visionary artists, scientists, philosophers, mathematicians and educators from around the world converges on southern England each summer when the circles appear. Here, they paint pictures of the creative genius being expressed in the farmlands as they try to make sense of why the crop formations are being delivered and how the world can ignore such wonders. Suzanne Taylor is a Force of Nature. She would not have been guided toward this investigation and this ultimate moment had the human race not been ready to leap off of this precarious precipice upon which our Mother Earth teeters. Baby birds fly because what other choice is there? And, their wet wings work every time. I felt that Force the second I stepped into her perch some 35 years ago. Maybe Suzanne is an alien who unzips that human form at night when no one's looking and out pours pure light. "What On Earth?" is a trailblazing documentary of uncommon beauty. That title is the question you find yourself asking throughout. You will leave the theater, or eject the DVD from the player realizing how paramount it is that we ask it. Ms. Taylor's brave, solo quantum leap into the void is no less dramatic than Columbus betting his life on a belief. It is, I would bet, aided and abetted by the rulers of a bigger Galaxy we have yet to learn we're a part of. And, now must. What more gentle, peaceful, creative way for them to say Hello?
Inland Empire Weekly says the film is very convincing: "I went into the film thinking the phenomenon of crop circles was New Age hooey. I finished the film not quite ready to believe in extraterrestrials or a planet with consciousness but definitely believing there is something to it." Read the full review online.
